Mortgage Brokers’ Conference

Old problems, New solutions?

Matthew Wyles, Group Executive Director, Castle Trust Capital plc
For the first time since 2006, mortgage advisers and their clients
are seeing a steady flow of new lending capacity into the market
with emerging evidence that the established players are responding
to competitive pressure by sharpening up their own propositions.
Matthew Wyles will look at some of the customer groups which
have been most adversely affected by the MMR – the elderly, the
self-employed, the asset rich/income poor whilst considering the
way that more creative lenders are finding new ways of helping
those customers who have much less choice.

The Budget brought some unwelcome surprises for buy to let
investors – does this mark the end of the bull run in residential
property investment? What can mortgage advisers do to help their
buy to let clients optimise their position? As the market becomes
more complex, the skills of a good mortgage broker have never been
more important. Matthew will look at current best practice with real
examples of proactive advisers differentiating themselves
in a competitive market.

Lastly, lenders have a pricing secret known to few intermediaries –
marginal cost accounting. Matthew will lift the lid and answer the
question, “when cheap is more expensive?”

We will finish with a ‘BBC Question Time’ style panel discussion.
Hosted by Paul Saunders, Shakespeare Martineau partner, the
panel will further address the issues arising from the conference,
and touch on key industry issues such as lending into retirement,
‘last time buyers’, mortgage prisons and innovative new mortgage
products. To put your questions forward in advance
