Shawbrook Commercial welcomes over a hundred brokers to its annual Broker Partner Day series

18 October 2016

For the fifth year in a row, Shawbrook Bank’s Commercial Mortgages team welcomed its brokers to their annual Broker Partner Day series, with two separate events in London and Derby.

Since the first edition in 2012, the Partner Days have grown into a popular opportunity for the Bank’s business partners to hear about the current state of the market (both in a niche market and a broader economic sense), and learn about the latest developments to Shawbrook’s products, systems and processes in a relaxed setting. It is now a firm fixture in the diaries of well over a hundred Shawbrook Broker Partners, including John Webb, Director at Shawbrook Strategic Partner The Loan Partnership and an attendee of the Derby Partner Day who commented:

“I’ve been a multiple attendee of Shawbrook’s Partner Days, and it’s interesting to see how they’ve grown in terms of ambition and attendance with every passing year. Senior Shawbrook management are on-hand to provide insight and their expert opinions on issues affecting brokers like me, supported by Shawbrook underwriters and BDMs.

“It’s a date I look forward to each year. There’s a layer of openness and accountability which isn’t always found elsewhere.”

In addition to an opening presentation by Deputy CEO & Managing Director of Property Finance Stephen Johnson, along with other Shawbrook Directors, each Partner Day focused on a series of interactive workshops as well as opportunities to network with brokers and Shawbrook team members.

The opening presentation offered Shawbrook Broker Partners an insight into some of the vital issues affecting them and their clients today, covering a range of topical issues including:

  • The fallout from the EU Referendum, changes to stamp duty and interest rate relief, as well as the recommendations from the PRA’s Consultation into buy-to-let (BTL) standards

  • An exploration of sentiment for the BTL, short term and commercial markets, in addition to rental trends and the wider economic outlook

  • Key service delivery statistics and information on how the Shawbrook Commercial teams are evolving to suit the needs of brokers’ clients

The core aim of the Partner Day series was one of education, with Broker Partners given an open and interactive forum to ask questions, air grievances, and suggest improvements.

This is evidenced by the four workshops which were held respectively at both the London and Derby event, covering topics such as:

  • Case studies & lending scenarios – bringing the Shawbrook proposition to life with Sales Desk Manager Glenn Brown, Senior Lending Manager Gemma Smith and Regional Development Manager Steve Matthews

  • The tax landscape – a legal, process and credit perspective with Stephen Johnson, Shawbrook Solicitor Faisal Nisar and Partner at Shawbrook’s in-house legal partner Pure Law LLP, Nick Hayes

  • The evolution of the investor market – with Sales Director Emma Cox and Credit Relationship Manager Tim Rist

  • Operations & service – driving efficient completions with Head of Sales Sarah Woolf, Lending Team Manager Daniel Standing and Senior Lending Officer Tina Bartlett

Emma Cox, Sales Director for Commercial was positive about the potential impact of this year’s Broker Partner Day series:

“We are keen to continue the annual tradition of the Partner Days and, having spoken with a number of the brokers across both the London and Derby events, they are considered a valuable opportunity to learn more about how Shawbrook works and to take advantage of our views on the market and economy”.

“We are firm believers in opening the doors to our business, ensuring full transparency and the development of long standing relationships between our team members and Broker Partners. It is these relationships that underpin our proposition and one of the many reasons our appetite to lend in this market remains so strong.”
