This is an underhand and insidious taxation increase from the Chancellor.
My understanding was that Court Fees were supposed to reflect the work involved, if you look at the fees to register Lasting Powers of Attorney then these have reduced over time and historic overpaid fees can be claimed back.
Does it really cost the Probate Office 16 times more in administration for an estate of £1.1 million (new fee £4,000) as for an estate of £250,000 (new fee £250)?
