Leek United ‘fighting dirty’ against cancer

13 September 2019

A TEAM of colleagues from Leek United are preparing to ‘fight dirty’ against cancer, as part of a national fun day of fundraising…

Eight members of staff from the Society will join hundreds of other women to jog and slide around a challenging 5k course in the Race for Life ‘Pretty Muddy’ event at Central Forest Park in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on Sunday, 15 September.

They will tackle a series of obstacles on the park’s paths, tracks and grass, all aimed at raising as much as they can for the organising charity, Cancer Research UK.

The Leek United ‘Pretty Muddy’ team includes: Debbie Evans, Louise Gibbs, Angela Lawson, Danielle Platt, Hannah Sargeant, Emily Simpson, Katie Swindell and Gillian Trafford; also joining them are former Society employees Gemma Lawson and Rose Trafford.

Louise, a Mortgage Underwriter with Leek United, said: “Several of us have taken part in ‘Pretty Muddy’ before – it’s a fun few hours, but the mud does tend to stay under your fingernails for days afterwards!

“Every one of us knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer in some way, and this is just one of the ways that we can get involved and raise much-needed funds for a vital, ongoing battle against the disease.”

Race For Life ‘Pretty Muddy’ at Central Forest Park is one of a series of similar events being organised by Cancer Research UK throughout the country.
