Ginger and spice, and all things nice…

Leek United is once again a main sponsor of this year’s award-winning Market Drayton Ginger & Spice Festival (27-28 September 2019).

The Society’s Heritage Spice Trail is a centerpiece of the festival, giving visitors a chance to explore the rich culinary history and heritage of the medieval market town on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September.

Festival-goers will be invited to follow the trail via a self-guided leaflet featuring Leek United’s popular mascot, Humphrey the Camel, who will be appearing at several special locations around the town throughout the festival.

Leek United first opened a branch in the ‘home of gingerbread’ more than 40 years ago.

Dan Nutt, the Society’s Market Drayton Branch Manager, said: “We’re delighted to again be a main sponsor of the 2019 Ginger & Spice Festival, which quite literally gives visitors a real taste of what the town is famous for.

“Camels played a big part in helping to transport spices on the ancient overland trading routes – so it’s entirely fitting that Humphrey is the ‘tour guide’ on the Leek United Heritage Spice Trail!”

The family-focused Trail will take participants on a culinary journey of discovery around Market Drayton, taking in all the restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops and buildings of historical importance, providing opportunities sampling and tasting en route.

Younger visitors can also help Humphrey find and name his gingerbread friends along the way.

Everyone completing the trail will be entered into a free prize draw*, with the chance of winning amazing prizes – a Leek United piggy bank filled with 30 £1 coins for the children, and a hamper stuffed with artisan food goodies for the adults!

Trail leaflets can be picked up from the Society’s Branch on the High Street, Market Drayton, or from the Festival information point next to the Buttercross on Saturday 28 September from 10am.

So, carry on…and follow that camel!
