cherry’s offer of help for brokers affected by COVID19 currently ignored by FCA

09 April 2020

The following offer of assistance was sent, by cherry, to the FCA but despite reminders, disappointingly, no response has been received as yet.

“Dear Ruth,

I refer to my telephone conversation this morning with you in your Press Office.

We wish to offer up our services to the FCA, the aim being to put regulated firms who are in difficulty in the current environment in touch with other firms who may be able to assist – thus allowing the industry to effectively ‘prop’ itself up and not become too damaged by the outbreak of COVID19.

Our fear, at the moment, is that as a result of the difficulties being experienced, particularly by mortgage and financial advisers, both they and consumers will suffer irrecoverably unless specific urgent measures are taken.

At its most basic, our plan is simple. Allow firms experiencing difficulties to ‘advertise’ their situations / needs (effectively anonymously) and to allow those who may be able to assist or even acquire the firms the ability, with permission to make contact.

Effectively cherry, being uniquely placed to do so, would be the advertising means via our website, and would provide the postbox facility as well as the use of our bulk mailing facility .

Please let us know your thoughts.

Yours faithfully

In the meantime, advisers in difficulty, or those able to offer support for others, should email donna.hopton@cherryplc.co.uk and we will aim to put relevant parties in touch with each other.
