Saffron Bolsters Development Finance Offering with New Hire

07 September 2021

- Saffron Building Society has bolstered the Development Finance team with new hire, Matt Hardy.
- Saffron are keen to enhance the offering and relationships with both new property development clients and development brokers
- Increase of brownfield land sales and the lack of affordable housing provides exceptional opportunities for SME developers

With the well documented rise in house prices, increase in buy-to-let purchases due to the SDLT holiday and the growing access to low-rate mortgages has meant that the property market is a buyer’s nightmare. There simply is not enough housing stock. As the government pledge to build over 100,000 new affordable homes, putting money from the public purse behind it, the opportunities for SME developers are growing, fast, as councils are being urged to sell off brownfield land for homes.

Saffron Building Society, who specialise in Development Finance, were early to identify the growing trend in smaller brownfield land developments and as such has bolstered the development finance team to deal with the demand. The society are therefore pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Hardy, who has joined the Development Finance team as a new Development Finance Manager this month.

Matt, an experienced Development Finance Manager in the sector comments on his new role: “I am so excited to be joining Saffron at such an important time in the industry. I have spent the most recent years developing relationships in this field, and I am excited to work with Peter Owen, who heads up the team, and learn from his extensive experience. I also join with existing relationships with brokers in this area, so I intend to rekindle those relationships in my new role and hopefully find them the best possible solutions for their clients. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Matt will work with brokers who are in or intend to enter the development finance sector as well as directly with developers from across the country. The role will see him report to industry stalwart, Peter Owen who had this to say about Matt’s appointment:

“I am really looking forward to working with Matt as he begins his career with Saffron. The unprecedented year and the knock-on effects this has had on the property market has brought some great opportunity for developers that will remain for years to come. Matt’s experience and his relationships with brokers in this field will be invaluable in helping us respond to enquiries quickly and efficiently and ensure we are able to provide the quality service we are proud of as this area continues to grow.”
