Just Mortgages gears up for affordable housing event

24 March 2022

The inaugural New Build and Affordable Housing Event hosted by Just Mortgages New Build Division is just one week away.

This free event will feature a Lender Village of exhibitors plus an array of speakers covering shared ownership and other affordable housing initiatives, particularly for first-time buyers.

Andy Nelson and Dave Anstice-Pim from Homes England will present on the progress of the government’s up-coming First Homes scheme. This is where new build homes are offered to first-time buyers with a discount of at least 30% off the market value.

There are a limited number of lenders who specialise in mortgages designed for affordable housing initiatives such as shared ownership. Some of these lenders will appear on two panel sessions during the day.

The morning session features Nationwide, Halifax, Barclays and Santander; and in the afternoon, delegates will hear from Kent Reliance, Pepper Money and Leeds Building Society.

There will also be presentations from representative of housing associations discussing shared ownership, Mortgage Brain’s view of the customer journey and Skipton Building Society on the first-time buyer journey.

The event takes place on 31 March at Whittlebury Hotel, Northampton for housing associations, property developers, local authorities and those interested in affordable housing. Prior registration is required and there are a few spaces left.

Paul Wilson, business development director at Just Mortgages New Build Division, said: “This gathering of housing and lending experts is a fantastic way for all interested parties to see the progress that is being made to help people onto the property ladder. Whether that is through the growth of shared ownership or new schemes such as First Homes, we all have a part to play in helping to provide good quality, affordable housing.”

Financial services director at Just Mortgages New Build Division, John Doughty, commented: “As house prices carry on rising, affordable housing continues to be an important issue. With only a year left of the Help to Buy scheme, we are seeing growth in alternative options such as shared ownership.

“We are really looking forward to hosting this event, which is a first for us, and we hope to make it an annual occurrence.”

Clive Sandom, corporate account manager at Leeds Building Society, who is speaking on a panel session, added: “Leeds Building Society is widely recognised as one of the leading shared ownership mortgage lenders.

“We are pleased to be able to share our knowledge and experience on the subject with Just Mortgages, as well as other stakeholders, at their upcoming event to help develop their roles in this market further.”
