Comment on what LiveMore wants to see from the new Chancellor

07 July 2022

Comment from Simon Webb, managing director of capital markets and finance at LiveMore:

“Since the onset of the cost-of-living crisis six months ago and the government’s faltering response, we’ve been incessantly asking ourselves the same question: where is the outside-the-box thinking?

“We want to see more joined-up thinking between the government and the Bank of England to proactively manage inflation, and hard policies that will solve the affordability problem, rather than papering over its symptoms.

“We believe the arrival of a fresh face at the helm of the Treasury, Nadhim Zahawi, needs to be an opportunity to collectively level up when it comes to the treatment of over-50s in our economy. For far too long, this group has been considered only in the context of state pensions and retirement.

“The government now has a unique opportunity to change this - using policy to push financial services providers to genuinely adopt fairer, more inclusive practices that cater to the specific and acute needs of an older audience that is tired of being overlooked.”
