Just Mortgages’ ‘New Starter Boost’ Sees Surge in Demand from Self-Employed Advisers

23 September 2025

The self-employed division of Just Mortgages, one of the UK’s largest mortgage brokerages, is already delivering strong results, helping advisers make the leap into self-employment with confidence from its New Starter Boost initiative, which is designed to help advisers make the move into self-employment.

Launched in January, the package combines access to pre-qualified leads and booked appointments, a commission advance scheme to help ease any early financial pressures and access to Just Mortgages’ digital marketing package. Since the launch at the start of the year, the initiative has delivered more than 120 booked appointments with an 80% attendance rate helping advisers collectively generate over £25,000 in just a few months for participating advisers.

Advisers taking advantage of the digital marketing package have also seen strong results. In just the last six months, local SEO activity has pushed 23% of adviser locations into the number one spot on Google, with a further 15% appearing in the top three and 22% in the top 10. Advisers using the posting assistance service saw approximately 415% more impressions on posts compared to those without, while in Q2 alone, advisers using the package received a combined 277 five-star Google reviews.

The early success aligns with the purpose of the support package, which is designed to help new self-employed advisers hit the ground running and build a pipeline of new business quickly and efficiently.

Alongside booked appointments in their first four months with Just Mortgages, advisers are able to access the commission advance scheme, which is an interest free loan to support them in their early months – which advisers can pay back over 12 months. In addition, advisers gain access to a digital platform to manage reviews and social media activity, a branded Facebook page, personalised landing page, posting assistance and on-demand branded marketing via Just Mortgages’ marketing portal.

With more than 80 applications to join in H1 alone, the self-employed division continues to attract ambitious advisers – whether that’s those from employed roles or more corporate structures, looking for the freedom of self-employment with ongoing training, mentoring and support.

Ben Allkins, head of mortgages and protection at Just Mortgages, said:

“We know the initial leap into self-employment can be really daunting, particularly when it comes to financial stability and building a client pipeline. These are the issues that this initiative aims to address to remove the barriers for ambitious advisers. We are thrilled with the success so far and to see such great early results. It demonstrates the difference this model is making in giving advisers a real launching pad into their self-employed career and a strong foothold in their local area.

“With these firm foundations in place, brokers can draw on an expert management team and ongoing mentoring, training and support with day-to-day duties such as sales, marketing and compliance, but also in developing and actioning their own business plans. From there, we can provide routes into different licences, such as business protection and equity release, and even support advisers into become business principals, helping them to recruit, manage and develop their own team of advisers and admin staff. We’re incredibly proud of the support structure we place around each of our advisers, making sure they are fully equipped to launch and scale their own advice businesses.”

The self-employed division at Just Mortgages is made up of nearly 500 advisers across the country, operating under the Just Mortgages banner or their own trading style. In addition, the brokerage has more than 150 employed advisers based in estate agency branches nationwide. Supporting advisers is its financial advice arm, Just Wealth which offers referral opportunities to discuss pensions, savings, investments and estate planning.
