Swansea Building Society’s Cowbridge branch celebrates £100 million savings milestone
17 December 2025
Swansea Building Society is celebrating a significant milestone at its Cowbridge branch, which has now surpassed £100 million in savings balances, highlighting the continued confidence local people place in the Society’s mutual, member-focused approach.
Opened on 11 December 2017, the Cowbridge branch has gone from strength to strength over the past eight years. It now supports 4,333 live savings accounts, employs 12 members of staff, and plays a key role in mortgage lending across the area, with mortgage balances exceeding £219 million.
The achievement reflects both the growth of the Cowbridge branch and the Society’s wider success across Wales, as it continues to perform strongly while remaining firmly rooted in its communities. As a mutual organisation owned by its members, Swansea Building Society is able to prioritise long-term relationships, competitive savings products and personal service, rather than short-term shareholder returns.
The Cowbridge branch has become a trusted and well-established presence in the town, supporting savers and borrowers alike while contributing to the local economy through employment and community engagement. Reaching the £100 million savings milestone marks an important moment in the branch’s development and demonstrates the value members continue to place on a strong local branch network.
Alongside its continued investment in branches, Swansea Building Society has also enhanced its digital offering with the launch of a new online member portal, giving members greater flexibility to manage their savings and mortgage accounts at a time and place that suits them. The portal is designed to complement, rather than replace, face-to-face service, ensuring members can choose how they engage with the Society.
This blended approach reflects Swansea Building Society’s long-held ethos of opening and investing in branches rather than closing them, recognising the vital role local branches continue to play in towns and communities. The success of the Cowbridge branch stands as a clear example of how local relationships, supported by modern digital services, can drive sustainable growth for members and the wider community.
Richard Miles, Head of Savings & Marketing and Area Manager East at Swansea Building Society, said:
“Reaching £100 million in savings balances at our Cowbridge branch is a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the trust our members place in us. Since opening in 2017, the branch has grown steadily thanks to the dedication of our local team and the support of the community. We firmly believe in investing in branches and keeping a strong local presence, while also giving members the flexibility of modern online services. This milestone shows that when you combine personal, face-to-face service with digital convenience, it’s a model that continues to resonate with our members.”
