Comment on first time buyers and rental market demand

Jon Hall, Group Managing Director Mortgages and Savings, OSB Group:
"It is great to see early signs of the affordability turning point we've been expecting this year, driven by inflation coming down and lenders stepping up. With mortgage lenders mobilising to open up lending criteria to improve affordability - from increasing mortgage terms to reduce monthly payments, to support smaller deposits - there is good news ahead for those looking to get onto the property ladder for the first time.
"In the rental market we're seeing an uplift in positive outlook from landlords, despite rising costs - with more saying they have adapted their business models and are set for a strong long-term, saying they are increasingly motivated by providing a vital service to the UK by housing those who need it most.
"On both sides of the market, broker-led specialist lending is key. Whether that is helping those looking to buy overcome potential challenges to unlock their new home or those looking to rent out properties, to ensure they have the best support to meet their business goals."
