Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter launches third annual ‘Walk & Talk’ fundraising challenge
17 March 2026
The Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) will host its third annual 144 mile Walk & Talk challenge from 10–15 May, bringing together professionals from across the mortgage sector to raise vital funds and awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
The six-day walking challenge will see participants – known as “Leggers” – join individual days along the route via the Grand Union Canal, walking and talking openly about mental health while promoting the positive impact that physical movement, fresh air and meaningful conversation can have on wellbeing.
The initiative is led by Jason Berry, Group Sales Director at Crystal Specialist Finance and co-founder of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter, who will once again complete the full six-day journey. This year he will be joined throughout the walk by Charlie Morley, Mortgage Distribution Director at Metro Bank.
The Walk & Talk event has quickly become a key wellbeing initiative across the mortgage industry. Following the success of last year’s event, which raised over £20,000 for mental health initiatives, organisers are aiming to surpass that total in 2026.
A number of leading organisations from across the mortgage and financial services sector have stepped forward to support the event.
Foundation Home Loans is supporting the initiative as headline sponsor, alongside key sponsors Nottingham Building Society, Moda Mortgages / CHL Mortgages, The Moving Portal, and All Money Matters.
Their support ensures that all event costs are fully covered, including accommodation, lunches, snacks and nutrition, energy drinks, medical supplies and event t-shirts. This means every pound raised through the JustGiving campaign will go directly towards supporting the work of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter.
Jason Berry, said:
“Walk & Talk was created to encourage people to step away from their desks, get moving and have open conversations about mental health. Physical movement, fresh air and shared experiences can have a hugely positive impact on wellbeing, and it’s fantastic to see so many people across the mortgage industry continuing to support this initiative. We raised just under £20k in 2025 and the aim is to go beyond that this year"
Charlie Morley, added:
“I’m really proud to be joining Jason for the full six days this year. It’s an excellent initiative that brings the industry together, encourages honest conversations about mental health and highlights the importance of taking time to look after both our physical and mental wellbeing.”
Alan Davison, Chief Commercial Officer at Foundation Home Loans, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support the Walk & Talk challenge as headline sponsor. The work being done by the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter is hugely important for our industry, and initiatives like this not only raise vital funds but also encourage people to prioritise their wellbeing. Bringing people together through physical activity and open conversation is a powerful way to drive positive change.”
Participants will join the route across the six days, walking individual stages while engaging in open discussions about mental health, wellbeing, resilience and the importance of looking after both physical and mental health.
The organisers hope the event will not only raise significant funds but also encourage more people across the sector to prioritise movement, wellbeing and conversation as part of everyday working life.
Funds raised will support the ongoing work of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter, helping expand awareness, resources and support for individuals working across the mortgage sector.
