Des Moore joins Suffolk Building Society as Non-Executive Director
06 July 2026
Suffolk Building Society welcomes former Cumberland Building Society CEO, Des Moore, as a new Non-Executive Director, effective 1 September 2026.
Moore brings with him nearly 40 years’ experience in retail and commercial banking, as former Managing Director of Allied Irish Bank (AIB) in Northern Ireland, before leading The Cumberland through significant transformation.
His appointment comes as Suffolk Building Society continues to invest in its future, combining digital services with maintaining its commitment to face-to-face service.
Drawing on his extensive leadership and commercial experience, Moore will support the Society's ongoing development and growth as it continues to serve more than 60,000 members.
Non-Executive Director, Steve Liddell, will leave the Society on 30 September 2026, having successfully completed his nine-year term. Steve joined the Society’s Board in 2017.
Incoming Non-Executive Director, Des Moore said:
"I'm looking forward to taking on this new role immensely. Alongside its commitment to branch-based savings services, as demonstrated by the opening of its Felixstowe branch in 2025, Suffolk Building Society has earned a strong reputation within the mortgage market. I hope to help the Society build on its recent growth and continue its success in the years ahead.”
Peter Elcock, Chair, Suffolk Building Society said:
“I am delighted to welcome Des to Suffolk Building Society. He brings a unique blend of extensive previous leadership experience and driving organisational change in a large building society whilst also possessing a wealth of knowledge across retail and commercial banking. As we continue to evolve to meet the needs of our members in an increasingly digital world, Des’ experience and expertise will be a significant asset. Just as importantly, Des shares our belief in the mutual model, its values, and the security and stability it provides to members.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Liddell for his terrific contribution to Suffolk Building Society over the past nine years, as a member of the Board and chair of the Society’s audit committee. Steve has provided guidance and wisdom during his time with us and, being local, has made a valuable contribution in relation to his first-hand knowledge of Suffolk. I look forward to Steve’s ongoing support over the next few months.
