WALBROOK INSTITUTE LONDON OFFERING NEW APPRENTICESHIP PATHWAYS FOR ASPIRING MORTGAGE ADVISERS

03 August 2026

  • Firms now able to express an interest in the new pathway including LIBF’s Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP)
  • Follows successful launch of apprenticeship pathways to train financial advisers
  • Industry-led collaboration supports firms and aspiring mortgage advisers with a ready-to-use, funded solution for firms of all sizes

Walbrook Institute London has further expanded its apprenticeship offering to include new level 3 pathways for aspiring mortgage advisers.

The programme provides mortgage advice firms of all sizes with an up-to-100%-funded, fully-managed route to attract, train, and retain the next generation of talent. Apprentices on the pathways will be able to study for LIBF’s industry-leading CeMAP qualification alongside other learners.

Walbrook has been offering degree-level apprenticeships for almost 10 years. In November 2025, Walbrook and Future Financial Adviser (FFA) announced new professional education apprenticeship pathways to address the shortage of qualified financial advisers and encourage new talent to join the sector. The scheme has received high interest from firms, and the first apprentices started this summer.

Following the success of the financial adviser pathways, Walbrook is now talking to lending firms to offer the 15-month Mortgage Adviser apprenticeship route.

The Walbrook pathways in mortgage and financial advice are a simple way to enable firms to recruit young talent directly into the sector, offering trainees the chance to achieve a recognised level 3, 4 or 6 qualification and a clear route to progress in their careers. They can also be used to upskill existing staff into more senior or specialist roles.

This unique apprenticeship programme enables firms both small and large to attain funding and provides employee toolkits to ensure apprentices are supported with a structured and quality-assured programme from day 1.

For employers, the model leverages government funding for apprenticeships, meaning that as much as 100% of the cost* could be covered – making it one of the most cost-effective ways to produce loyal, home-grown advisers.

As LIBF is both a membership body and on the Apprenticeship Provider and Assessment Register (APAR), all apprentices can start benefitting immediately from being part of a community and accessing complimentary CPD activities and materials.

The new apprentices will study for their qualifications online on LIBF’s interactive learning environment alongside a cohort of peers.

Gordon Reid, Business Development Manager at LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London, said:

“As the biggest mortgage advice educator in the UK, it’s the natural move to expand our successful professional education apprenticeship pathways to the mortgage advice sector.

“As an apprenticeship and financial services qualification provider which is also membership body, we can provide a whole solution. New apprentices will have the chance to be part of a network with both peers and more experienced professionals.

“Through this new pathway, we can help firms to recruit, train and support the next generation of talent using the national apprenticeship levy. Using pathways like this, which are aligned to employer need and the national skills agenda, we’re also playing our part in tackling the wider issue of youth unemployment.”

Daniel Hobbs, CEO of New Leaf Distribution, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to work with Walbrook Institute London on this exciting initiative to bring new talent into mortgage advice.

“With over 400 mortgage brokers in our network already, we’re looking forward to growing this number. Apprenticeships provide a structured and deliberate talent pipeline for growth. This new 15-month programme will support apprentices to gain their CeMAP qualifications and learn more about finding and advising clients.”
