Houzecheck react to latest MPC decision

17 September 2026

Richard Sexton, commercial director at Houzecheck said:

“The Bank of England’s decision to hold Bank Rate reflects a housing market that remains caught between the need for greater affordability and continued economic uncertainty. For buyers, stability can be valuable in itself, but the cost of borrowing remains an important consideration when deciding whether to move.

“That makes efficiency across the rest of the transaction increasingly important. Once a buyer has committed to a property, unnecessary delays around valuations, surveys and other property information can add further uncertainty and put pressure on the wider chain.

“For brokers and lenders, the focus should therefore remain on giving customers as much certainty as possible. Faster surveying, better use of technology and consistent professional judgement can all help reduce friction and keep transactions moving.”
