AI Should Give Mortgage Advisers Time Back, Says Monicio
01 October 2026
New mortgage CRM focuses AI on repetitive administration rather than replacing the adviser.
Artificial intelligence should be used to remove repetitive mortgage administration rather than replace mortgage advice, according to the team behind Monicio.
The newly launched AI-powered mortgage CRM has been built around the principle that advisers should remain responsible for advice and client relationships, while technology takes on a greater proportion of the repetitive work surrounding a case.
Tasks including reviewing documents, identifying missing information, populating parts of fact finds and following up for outstanding paperwork can consume significant time during the mortgage process.
Monicio uses AI and workflow automation to support many of these activities.
Ifthikar Mohamed, Director of Mortgage AI Toolkit, said:
“There is a lot of conversation about whether AI will replace mortgage advisers. I think that misses the immediate opportunity.
“We should first be asking why highly qualified advisers are spending so much of their working day doing tasks that technology can assist with.
“AI does not need to replace the adviser to completely change the economics of a mortgage business. It simply needs to give advisers more of their time back.”
Moving From Data Entry to Review
One example is the traditional mortgage fact find.
Much of the information required may already exist within payslips, bank statements, identity documents, emails and previous client conversations.
Monicio can analyse information available within the client journey and use it to support the completion of relevant sections of the fact find.
This changes the adviser's role from repeatedly entering existing information to reviewing and confirming it.
The same principle can be applied to document chasing.
Rather than an adviser or administrator manually checking each case to determine what remains outstanding, automated workflows can identify missing items and contact the client.
AI Around the Adviser
Mohamed believes this distinction will be important as AI becomes more widely adopted across financial services.
He said:
“The adviser remains responsible for understanding the client's circumstances and giving appropriate advice.
“What we are trying to automate is everything unnecessarily sitting around that.
“Document handling, repetitive data entry, administration and routine follow-ups should increasingly be handled by technology.
“That gives advisers more capacity without requiring them to work longer hours.”
A Different Measure of AI Success
Monicio believes firms should ultimately measure mortgage AI by the time and capacity it creates rather than simply the number of AI features a system contains.
Mohamed added:
“The best AI may eventually be the AI advisers barely notice.
“It should simply be working in the background, keeping cases moving and reducing the number of administrative tasks requiring human attention.”
