Richard Sexton, managing director at Westmarq, said:
“Stronger economic growth provides an encouraging backdrop for the housing market as we approach the budget, but the key question is whether that confidence translates into greater activity. For lenders, the challenge remains making sound lending decisions while ensuring valuation processes are efficient, proportionate and appropriate to the property being assessed.
“Technology and data help lenders assess straightforward cases quickly, but they must also be able to identify properties that require closer scrutiny. The aim is not to automate as many valuations as possible, but to apply the right approach to each case, combining reliable data with professional judgement where it is needed.
“Ultimately, a stronger economy creates opportunities, but lenders still need confidence in the properties securing their lending. Getting that balance right is essential to supporting sustainable activity in the housing market.”
