TwentyCi comments on today's inflation data

21 October 2026

Colin Bradshaw, CEO at TwentyCi:

“This rise in inflation could add to the uncertainty facing the housing market, particularly if it puts further upward pressure on swap rates and mortgage pricing. Although lender competition has increased and some lending rules have relaxed, these factors can only do so much to offset the impact of borrowing costs on affordability and buyer confidence.

“Our latest data shows that sales agreed in September were down 6.6% year on year, marking the fifth consecutive month of decline. This suggests the pressure is already feeding through into buyer demand and is likely to affect completed transactions over the coming months. We are maintaining our forecast of 1.16 million residential transactions for 2026, with sales already agreed giving us a strong indication of the remainder of the year. However, until mortgage pricing becomes more favourable, we expect the market to continue facing headwinds.”
